Naka-Kon 2016

Naka-Kon cordially invites you to attend this year's​ Charity Ball! On Friday evening we will offer dance lessons for Naka-Kon attendees, and staff dancers will also be present to teach attendees during the event. ​This year we are pleased to include a photo-op area outside the ballroom. Feel free to bring your camera or phone to take a picture with our beautiful backdrop.

The Charity Ball is a ​ticketed event​, with a cap of 800 attendees​. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased through the website or at registration. All proceeds from the dance will go to Naka-Kon's chosen charities.

Please note, formal attire is required. See below for more information on dress code.

Dance Cards

Each attendee will receive a dance card upon ​entering the ball. On each of these dance cards you’ll find descriptions. Find someone matching that description​ and ask them to dance with you. Following the dance, ask your dance partner to sign their name in that portion of your dance card with a pencil/pen.

Once you have a name for each description, give your dance card (with your name at the top) to a Staff Dancer to turn in. Names will be entered into a contest to be honored as part of the ball’s royal court. This will include a King (Ou), Queen (Joou), Prince (Ouji), and Princess (Hime). The royal court will also be presented with prizes and be asked to lead a dance toward the end of the ball.

Rose Exchange

During the ball, three dozen attendees will receive roses. We ask that you present that rose to someone you did not know before attending the ball. We ask that no one receive more than one rose, as it would be unfair. The purpose of this is solely to encourage people to mingle during the ball.

"Waltz to the Moon" Competition

Attendees are invited to partake in the first dance of the evening, which is also a competition. This contest will be the "Waltz to the Moon" dance, as seen in "Final Fantasy VIII". The winners will be chosen based on their accuracy and skill with this dance. Only the first 25 pairs will be allowed to enter, so be sure to sign up after entering the ball.

Staff Dancers

Naka-Kon staff members will be available to dance with attendees. They will be introduced at the beginning of the ball to help attendees identify who they are.

Should they be asked to dance, our staff members will say yes, so there is no fear of being turned down! Likewise, they may ask you to dance. You may say yes or no. Staff will also be available to teach you to waltz during the ball if you wish to learn.

For the Charity Ball, we encourage your cosplays and cross-plays! However, they must still follow the Naka-Kon and charity ball dress codes. (Remember that the dress code is gender-neutral.) Examples of appropriate cosplays and cross-plays include ball gowns, military dress uniforms, and historical costumes.

1. All attendees must abide by the general dress code of Naka-Kon.
2. Appropriate formal attire includes (but is not limited to):
   • Dresses, gowns, kimonos, Hanfu, saris, suits, tuxedos, kilts, etc.
3. Shoes must be appropriately formal. This includes:
   • Dress shoes, oxfords, saddle shoes, high heels, shined boots, dance slippers, etc.
   • This excludes: ​Sneakers, Converse shoes, dirty boots, work boots, tactical boots, etc.
4. Dresses, skirts, kilts, etc., are to be no shorter than 3 inches above the knee.
5. Leather, latex and fur may be used as accents on clothing, but should not make up your main outfit.
6. No glow stick bracelets or other light-up accessories.
7. No mascot outfits, fur suits, wings, weapons, or anything else that can interfere with dancing.
